Glam metal arose in the late 1970s. It was a dominant genre in popular rock music throughout the 1980s and early 1990s.

Glam metal is also referred to as hair metal. This term was popularized by MTV in the 1990s and derives from the tendency amongst some bands to style their long hair in a teased-up fashion. In modern culture, fans of the style have embraced the term hair metal. During its heyday, the glam metal was often referred to as heavy metal or simply metal.

This year, it’s going to be Rocklahoma’s inaugural year, and judging from the lineup, something tells us that it’s trying to become the official metal destination festival. Its calling card seems to be bands that many of us haven’t listened to (in public) since the early 90s.

The large glam metal festival would be taking place at Pryor, Oklahoma July 13th -15th. Amongst the bands featuring are Poison, Ratt (reformed with Stephen Pearcy), Warrant, Slaughter, Faster Pussycat, L.A. Guns, Bang Tango, Vince Neil Band, Jackyl, Dokken, Quiet Riot, Britny Fox (reformed), Enuff Z’nuff, Winger, Firehouse and Y&T.
