Pop rocker Avril Lavigne sits atop the european singles chart with girlfriend

After fighting off challenges from Justin Timberlake and Gwen Stefani, the pop rocker Avril Lavigne sits atop the European singles chart with Girlfriend from the album The Best Damn Thing. Justin Timberlake’s What Goes Around… Comes Around from album FutureSex / LoveSounds and Gwen Stefani’s collaboration with R&B star Akon, The Sweet Escape, are at numbers two and three respectively.

Still in the top five at number four is Mika with Grace Kelly, followed by Nelly Furtado’s Say It Right in fifth place. Meanwhile, Furtado is in pole position in the European albums chart – her record Loose is the continent’s most popular disc.

Mika’s Life In Cartoon Motion is at number two on the new chart, while Jennifer Lopez’s Spanish-language album Como Ama Una Mujer claims the number three spot.
